description:

This image scanned from the Summer 1936 edition of the Indiana University Alumni Quarterly. In a November 6, 1935 letter to James W. Fesler, President of the IU Board of Trustees, Patten writes about his wishes for the funds he donated to what is known today as the William T. Patten Foundation Lecture Series, in full: "The chief purpose of the Patten Foundation as agreed between the Trustees of Indiana University and myself is to bring to the campus lecturers of eminence who will be in residence at the University for at least two months. However, it may be desirable at times to bring on this Foundation eminent men who cannot be secured for so long a time but who may give single lectures. I shall be glad to have such men brought to the University from time to time at the discretion of the Trustees, always with the provision that the chief purpose is to bring men who shall be in residence for two months or more."
